 CIS is first Filipino IT company to achieve distinctive rating
MANILA, 5 August 2002 – Corporate Information Solutions, Inc. (CIS) recently attained SW-CMM (Capability Maturity Model for Software) Level 3 rating from an SEI authorized lead appraiser. CIS is the first Filipino-owned IT company to earn this distinctive recognition.
This achievement re-emphasizes CIS´s continuous commitment to product quality and customer service. A CMM rating is to the software business what a Good Housekeeping seal of approval is to household consumer products or an ISO certification is to manufacturing processes. The SW-CMM is a model for judging the maturity of the software processes of an organization and for identifying the key practices that are required to increase the maturity of these processes. It is intended to help software organizations improve the maturity of their software processes along an evolutionary path from ad hoc, chaotic processes to mature, disciplined software processes.
The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) a federally funded research and development center sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense and operated by Carnegie Mellon University created the SW-CMM standard. Through SW-CMM, the SEI community has put in place an effective means for modeling, defining, and measuring the maturity of the processes used by software professionals.
CIS achieved SW-CMM Level 3 because its software processes in both management and software development activities are documented, standardized, and integrated as a basic practice within the organization. All projects use an approved, tailored version of the organization's standard software process for developing and maintaining software. Also, there are established project management methods to track cost, schedule, and functionality. The necessary discipline is in place that ensures earlier project successes are repeated with similar applications of thestandard process. In effect, CIS institutionalizes effective software engineering and management practices across all projects.
CIS aims at nothing less than delighting customers with the consistent application of its CMM assessed process. Improved project estimates, product quality, and better customer-project team communication are just a few of the continuing customer benefits. As part of the SW-CMM audit, adiverse number of projects were looked into to confirm the relevance of the process to the various business systems that CIS supported. These included billing, account monitoring, and mobile solutions, to cite a few.
